Millet cultivation is gaining momentum across Kurnool district as more farmers are adopting these nutritious and climate-resilient crops. With increasing government support and rising consumer demand for healthy food, the cultivation of jowar (sorghum), bajra (pearl millet), foxtail millet, little millet, and finger millet has expanded in several mandals. These crops require less water, withstand dry climatic conditions, and are well-suited to the district’s semi-arid environment.
The Agriculture Department is encouraging millet farming through awareness programs, quality seed distribution, technical guidance, and support under various government schemes. Farmers are being trained in modern cultivation techniques, post-harvest management, and value-added processing to improve productivity and market opportunities. Officials believe that the growing adoption of millet cultivation will promote sustainable agriculture, enhance food and nutritional security, conserve water resources, and increase farmers’ incomes while strengthening Kurnool district’s agricultural economy.
