Commercial Gold Production Marks Historic Milestone

The commencement of commercial gold production at the Swarnagiri Gold Mine in Tuggali mandal, Kurnool district, marks a historic milestone for India’s mining industry. As the country’s first private-sector commercial gold mine since Independence, the project represents a major step toward increasing domestic gold production and reducing reliance on imports. The successful launch highlights Andhra Pradesh’s growing role in the nation’s mineral and industrial development.

The Swarnagiri Gold Mine is expected to produce approximately 400 kilograms of gold during its first year of operation, with annual production projected to rise to nearly one tonne in the coming years. Beyond boosting gold output, the project is generating employment opportunities, attracting fresh investments, and encouraging the growth of supporting industries in the region. Officials believe the mine will play a key role in strengthening the local economy and establishing Kurnool district as an emerging mining and industrial hub in India.
