Maha Shivaratri is one of the most sacred Hindu festivals celebrated with great devotion at the Sri Yaganti Uma Maheswara Swamy Temple in Yaganti, Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the festival falls during the Hindu month of Phalguna (February–March) and attracts thousands of devotees from across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and other parts of India. It is considered one of the most important annual celebrations at the temple.
During Maha Shivaratri, the temple is beautifully decorated with flowers and colorful lights. The celebrations begin with special Abhishekam, Rudrabhishekam, Maha Mangala Harathi, Bilva Archana, and other sacred rituals performed throughout the day and night. Devotees observe fasting, chant “Om Namah Shivaya”, and participate in night-long prayers, believing that worshipping Lord Shiva on this day brings peace, prosperity, and spiritual blessings.
A major attraction of the festival is the Kalyanotsavam (celestial wedding ceremony) of Lord Uma Maheswara Swamy and Goddess Parvati, along with grand temple processions, devotional music, Harikathas, bhajans, and cultural performances. The temple witnesses an overwhelming gathering of pilgrims who come to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva and experience the vibrant spiritual atmosphere.
